Saint Spyridon of Tremithus was born in III century on Cyprus. In youth he was a shepherd, had wife and kids. After the death of his wife he accepted monasticism, and soon became a bishop of Tremithus.

He was known for his kindness, compassion and deep faith. He gave all his saving to the needy, so God gave him the gift of wonderworking: healing of the sick, expulsion of demons, taming of the wild.

Saint Spyridon took part in 325 First Council of Nicaea, where he strongly defended the orthodox faith. Many wonders took place through his prayers: the dead were raised, the weather changed and the idols shattered.

According to tradition, when the Council dealt with issues of elimination of pagan temples, only one idol was left undestroyed. It was Saint Spyridon who was assigned to destroy it. As soon as his foot touched the ground, idol fell and crumbled into dust.

Saint lived a life in prayer, simpleness and love to people. He died in the year 348, and his remains rest on the island of Corfu, in the shrine named in his honour.

Holy Father Spyridon, pray to God for us!
