The icon is made using litographic technique on ash-tree board. Measurements of a medium one -15 × 20 × 2 сm, big one - 20х28х2 сm.
The "Mystic Supper" icon depicts one of the most significant evangelic events - the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with 12 disciples, that ocurred on Great Thursday. That was the supper on which Jesus established Sacrament of the Eucharist through blessing bread as His body and wine as His blood.
The earliest iconographic examples of the Last Supper date back to the 6th century, including miniature illustrations in New Testament manuscripts (such as the Rossano Gospels) and mosaics like those in the Basilica of Sant' Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna.
In our region the icon has been widespread since the times of Kyivan Rus. In the composition of iconostasis it was placed above the Royal Doors.
Such arrangement underscores that it is the Mystical Supper that is the origin of Divine Liturgy, because Christ, the Great High Priest, stays without ceasing with his people in the Sacrament of Eucharist. This Holy Image encourages us to remember the significance of the Eucharist, our oneness in Christ and vocation to live in love, forgiveness and ministry, like our Saviour showed us in His Last Supper.
